is seeking a part-time Muslim Spiritual Advisor to work in a
collaborative team serving the University's large, diverse, and
dynamic Muslim community. The Spiritual Advisor positions cover
several classic "chaplaincy" or "campus ministry" functions and
advance the global experiential educational mission of the
University and its Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service
(CSDS).A successful candidate will have:
- A passion for working with Muslim undergraduate and graduate
students from diverse US and international backgrounds.
- An ability to collaboratively plan and develop programs with
NU's two dynamic student groups: the Islamic Society of
Northeastern University (ISNU) and the Black Islamic Association
(BIA).
- Interest in interfaith dialogue and collaboration.
- Experience in teaching, speaking, preaching, and/or
spiritual/pastoral advising and care.
- Skills and interest in inter-Muslim Sunni-Shi'a dialogue and
cooperation.
- Skills in fostering inter-Muslim dialogue while addressing
racial diversity.
- An appreciation of the dynamics of young adult Muslim life in
US society and higher education.
- A commitment to developing student leaders who are culturally
adept, ethically reflective, and spiritually grounded global
citizens.
- A powerful commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and
justice.Overall, Spiritual Advisors at Northeastern:
- Design effective outreach/hospitality/engagement approaches to
students, faculty, and staff within their own religious/spiritual
tradition.
- Advise student organization(s) serving their specific
religious/spiritual tradition.
- Work with the Center Executive Director and staff to plan and
implement dynamic programs of spirituality, dialogue, and
service.
- Meet with Northeastern community members for spiritual
guidance/care/counseling while maintaining respect for others'
traditions.
- Are available to meet with and serve students of all
religious/spiritual traditions, and none.
- Meet with a team of fellow Spiritual Advisors for dialogue and
program planning once a month.
- Work to build bridges of communication and cooperation with
their specific religious/spiritual tradition.
- Serve as a representative of their religious/spiritual
tradition in University forums, interfaith services, events,
conferences, and programs.
- Where appropriate, coordinate services and ceremonies specific
to their religious/spiritual tradition.
- Other duties as assigned.* The position is part-time, hours to
